IPhone Rivals Dispute Apple's Antenna Claims | John Paczkowski | Digital Daily | AllThingsD

Old players of mobiles phones like nokia, samsung, blackberry have been enjoying their good share of market since iphone got released. Especially, touchphone only had meant "stylus" based touch. So there was no attempt in designing UI for mobile apps that were capable to handle "finger" touch. Apple demonstrated made it real with itouch.

Apple a PC maker suddenly gets into RF modem devices (probably through 3rd party chips). Nokia , Sony, Motorola handset makers all had a unique feature that had a separate user market. For e.g Motorola devices had the lowest RF emission, Sony for best long battery time. Nokia for its "name" and the keyboard interface which many illiterate people find it easy to use (especially in India). These guys have got their reputation in market with their experience and R&D setup on each part of the mobile devices right from Antenna design, proprietary Equalizer design (way to handle multipath channel), channel estimators and also way of estimating the supportable data rate that it requests from the base-station. How long has been #apple doing this !! It looks unethical - Apple (a new comer in mobiles) to suddenly question on these guys antenna design.

I also agree that apple has become a trend setter for touch-phone UI and make other mobile-os to learn from apple.
